The Church of the Holy Comforter in Vienna is moving forward with plans to build a solar array in its lower parking lot to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. Financial support from parishioners and a county grant is helping fund the $450,000 to $650,000 project. Led by Rev. Jon Strand, with construction guidance from Dan Govan of Govan Builders Inc., Ipsun Solar will execute the project, with Structural Solar LLC providing the structural support. The array, comprising 235 panels, will generate an estimated 175,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually without sacrificing parking spaces. Once completed, the church will be 70 percent closer to its carbon-neutrality goal.
